Don't Be a Zombie!

Public Service Announcement Video Contest & Red Carpet PSA Event

IMPORTANT: Please read the instructions below to enter your short video into the contest.

General Information

  • NEW Submission Deadline: June 3rd, 2020
  • Leading up to the prom/graduation season, and to celebrate the creative youth in Lewis County, the UP! Coalition is hosting a public service announcement (PSA) video contest to help spread the message that youth using alcohol, vaping, and/or prescription drugs is dangerous to their long-term development, and that being a “zombie” and following the crowd isn’t the way to go.
  • One (1) Video finalists from EACH of the Lewis County schools will be debuted at Lowville Town Hall Theater on the evening of June 18th and the overall grand prize winner will be announced that same evening.
  • Finalists (at least one team member for the winning team) must be present at the Red Carpet PSA Event to represent their team and answer questions from the audience.
  • Clubs, school groups, and school teams are encouraged to submit!

Prizes

There is one (1) winning team for each school in Lewis County to be awarded $300 for the entire team.
At the Red Carpet PSA Event, one (1) grand prize overall winner will be announced and awarded $500 for the entire team.

Themes & Judging

  • PSA themes can include but are not limited to safe disposal of prescription drugs, the dangers of underage drinking, the dangers of prescription drugs, perception of harm by Lewis County youth, perception of peer use by Lewis County youth, etc.
  • Videos will be judged on creativity, cohesion with the Don’t be a Zombie! theme, quality of the production and overall impression.
  • There is no fee to enter the contest. Videos will be submitted online at: www.uplewiscounty.org.

Contest Timeline

  • PSA submissions must be uploaded by Wednesday, June 3rd.
  • The UP! Coalition members will vote on one (1) finalists from each school.
  • Finalists will be shown at the Town Hall Theater on June 18th.
  • The Grand Prize winners will be announced atthe Lowville Town Hall Theater on June 18th.

Contest Rules

  1. Videos submitted after June 3rd will not be accepted.
  2. Videos must be filmed in the Lewis County area and reflect the “Don’t be a Zombie!” theme. PSAs need to be limited to underage drinking, vaping or prescription drug use (NO videos about heroin, marijuana, or other illicit drugs will be considered for the context of this contest)
  3. Videos must have the UP! Coalition logo somewhere in the video. Visit: uplewiscounty.org for a downloadable logo.
  4. PSAs must be between 30 and 60 seconds in length.
  5. File format must be .mov, .mp4, .mpg, .avi, .wmv, .3pg, and .3g2 and cannot exceed 100MB in size.
  6. PSA content deemed offensive or dangerous by the reviewing committee will be disqualified. This includes, but is not limited to any sexually explicit or suggestive, obscene, lewd, violent, illegal, offensive, disparaging or inappropriate behavior, words, abbreviation, language, signs, products, symbols, political, personal and/or religious references or statements (including, but not limited to, words or symbols that are widely considered offensive to individuals of a certain race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or socioeconomic group.
  7. Entrants agree not to submit any entry that infringes any third-party proprietary rights, intellectual property rights, industrial property rights, personal or moral rights or any other rights, including without limitation, copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret or confidentiality obligations, or otherwise violates applicable U.S. law.
  8. Upon uploading the submission, entrants agree to the additional terms of service.  Participation in this competition explicitly grant the United Prevention (UP!) Coalition of Lewis County, rights to all submitted works, in full or in part, as it finds appropriate, without further compensation to the author.
  9. Winning teams will be required to attend the Red Carpet event at the Town Hall Theater and sign an artist contract upon payment.
  10. The total amount is awarded to the team, or individual and it is up to the team to decide how the money gets distributed.
  11. No adult (over the age of 18 and NOT a Lewis County student) or out of Lewis County area submission will be eligible. If deemed necessary, proof of age/residency will be required.

Need Help? Come to the DoublePlay Teen Center in Lowville on Fridays from 3:30 – 8:00. They have cameras, green screens, and internet to help you produce the perfect videos. Visit their YouTube channel to get suggestions, ideas, or examples.
