Meet The

Sector Reps

Tyree Smith

Occupation: Part Time Coalition Assistant

Town/Hamlet of Residence: Philadelphia, New York

Why did you join UP!?: Because of the shared goals and objectives and the mission that the coalition stands for aligns with my personal values.

What are some positive things for the youth in this community?: Many of the kids that I have encountered within this community are honest and open to discuss the impacts of adolescent substance abuse.

What are some changes you wish to see in the community?: I would like to members of the community to actively participate and support activities that are being conducted within the community.  We are so much stronger in great numbers!

What does the word “COMMUNITY” mean to you? I think of teamwork, togetherness; with people within a specific area sharing similar goals in making a positive impact to their shared environment.

What is your favorite season?: My favorite season is fall, because of the beautiful colors, along with the color transformations that the trees encounter.  It’s a season that represents change and the beauty that occurs when that change takes place.

If you could have one super power, what would you choose?: Creation magic would be something that I would love to have to impact the lives of others.

What words of wisdom would you pass on to your childhood self?: You don’t have to be perfect at everything and place so much pressure on myself.  Also, I would tell my childhood self that it is okay to be different, as long as you are staying true to yourself, because you are more than enough.

What’s your favorite book you have ever read?: Tuesdays with Morie.

Who is your personal hero? Why?: My parents are my personal heroes, because of the various ways that they have impacted members within the community that I grew up.  They are constantly giving back to others and sharing their wisdom and knowledge with the less fortunate.
